Iron Woman completed a high-altitude remediation and watershed protection project at the abandoned Waldorf Mine near Georgetown, Co. The project involved construction of a Passive Water Management System, which naturally detoxified mine drainage water through a series of lined channels and ponds. High altitude, limited in roads, and delicate ecosystems made the project particularly challenging. The Iron Woman crew executed the project with zero safety incidences and minimal need for plan changes. The project improved water quality at the headwaters of a major watershed system serving both the ecosystem and the communities relying on Clear Creek. The cities of Georgetown, Dumont, and Idaho Springs, Colorado, are the primary beneficiaries of the project; however, every downstream user will see an impact in improved water quality, including local wetlands and the wildlife it supports.
